Kurucularının okumalarıyla kalkınmadaki temel teorik perspektifleri tartışır: modernleşme teorisi, bağımlılık teorisi, dünya sistemleri perspektifi, insani gelişimi. Azgelişmişliğin nedenleri hakkında tarihsel bir arka plan sağladıktan sonra, ikinci dünya savaşı sonrası gelişimin evrimine ilişkin kronolojik bir açıklama sağlar. Ders daha sonra küreselleşme ve cinsiyet gibi kalkınmadaki belirli güncel konulara odaklanmaktadır. | This course provides an in-depth introduction to the political economy of development. It discusses the main theoretical perspectives in development: modernization theory, dependency theory, world-systems perspective and human development approach through readings by the founders of these perspectives. After providing a historical background on the causes of underdevelopment, it then provides a chronological account of the evolution of development in the post-second world war era. The course then focuses on particular current issues in development such as globalization and gender. |

ADVENCED STUDIES IN COMPARATIVE POLITICS | S | 3 | 0 | 3.0 | 6.0 | 3 | Öncelikle ders, karşılaştırmalı siyasette kullanılan teorilere ve metotlara giriş ile başlar, yani “karşılaştırmalı methot” ve “vaka çalışması” yaklaşımı. İkinci olarak ders, uygulamalı vaka çalışmaları veya ülkeler arası karşılaştırmaların derinlemesine analizi ile devam eder, ki bunlar Britanya, Fransa, Almanya ve ABD. | This class first offers some basic analytical frameworks -- culture, social structure, and institutions -- that you can use examine a wide range of political outcomes. We then use these frameworks to understand (1) the relationship between democracy and economic development and (2) the relative centralization of political authority across countries. We will use theoretical arguments and a wide range of case studies to address several questions: Why are some countries democratic and others not? How does democracy affect economic development and political conflict? Why do some countries centralize power while others threaten to fall apart through secession and civil war? We will use examples from a wide range of countries including Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Iraq, Italy, Mexico, and the United States. The lessons drawn from these countries will prepare you to analyze other countries of your own choosing in the paper assignments. At the end of the course, you should be able to analyze political events around the world, drawing on the theoretical explanations provided in the class. |

The political psychology of persuasion, bias, prejudice, racism, collective action, migration, and how our identities, personalities, and contexts shape our political attitudes and behaviors are presented. |

Siyasal psikoloji, karar birimlerinin algıları incelenecektir. | To learn the main actors of foreign policy, to analyse and understand the acts of the decision units better, firstly conceptual and theoretical
approaches will be discussed in details.
Following with this, level of analysis will be examined.
Political psychology, perceptions of the decision units will be investigated. |

Bu çerçevede, devlet oluşumu, Arap milliyetçiliği, Arap-İsrail ve İsrail-Filistin çatışması, siyasal İslam, bölgenin ekonomi politiği ve bölgeyle ilgili olarak yapılmakta olan demokrasi tartışmalarını kapsamaktadır. Aynı zamanda, öğrenciler Türkiye'nin Orta Doğu'ya yönelik dış politikasını da tartışma imkanı bulacaklardır. | The course will cover mainly the Arab world, Israel, Iran and Turkey. Within this framework, the state-formation process, the Arab nationalism, the Arab-Israeli and Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the political Islam, the political economy of the region and the question of democracy are some of the topics of this course. Furthermore, the students will discuss in detail the Turkish foreign policy towards the Middle East. |
